What Makes Braids “Knotless”?
One change at the root, and it changes everything
A traditional braid starts with a knot: your own hair is looped around the extension and tied off tight at the scalp. That knot is what holds the braid on, and it is also what you feel for the first three days.
A knotless braid starts with your own hair only. The braider begins the plait with your natural hair and feeds the extension in a little at a time as she works down. There is no knot, nothing to grip the root, and the weight builds up gradually instead of landing on the follicle all at once.
That is the whole difference, and it is why knotless braids lie flat, move from the root and can be tied up on day one without your scalp arguing about it. It is also the reason they are gentler on a fine or receding hairline — no single point is carrying the weight of the whole braid.
The parting is the same square grid you would get with box braids, so the look is familiar; it is the root that is different. Ask for any size from jumbo down to micro, any length from midback to past the waist, and sealed ends or curly boho ends. Bring a photo if you have one and we will match it.

Knotless Braids Questions
If yours isn’t here, call (832) 834‑0324
What is the difference between knotless braids and box braids?
The parting is the same - both use square sections - but the start is not. A box braid begins with a knot that ties your hair to the extension. A knotless braid begins with your own hair and the extension is fed in gradually, so there is no knot and no single point carrying the weight. Knotless is the gentler of the two on your hairline; box braids hold their shape a little longer.
How long do knotless braids last?
Six to eight weeks. After that your new growth loosens the parts and the braids start to slip, which is when they begin to pull. If you finish them with curly ends expect the shorter end of that range, because loose curls tangle sooner than sealed ends.
Do knotless braids damage your hair?
Not when they are installed at the right tension. There is no knot gripping the root, so the usual cause of traction damage is not there. What still matters is how tight they are braided and how long you keep them in - we would rather loosen a section than have you sit through an install that hurts.
How long does a knotless braid appointment take?
Three to four hours for a medium size at midback length. Smaller braids and longer lengths take longer, so tell us the size you want when you book and we will give you the time before you come in.
How many packs of hair do I need for knotless braids?
Six to eight packs covers most medium installs at midback length. Small braids or waist length and past it need more. You can bring your own or buy it here at $16 a pack, and we will tell you if what you brought is not going to be enough before we start.
How much are knotless braids?
From $155 up to $355, and the size of the braid moves the price more than the length does. Jumbo at midback is $155, medium at midback is $255, and small down to butt length is $355. The full grid is on this page. Braiding hair is $16 a pack and boho curl hair for the ends $60, or $70 in a colour, if you want us to supply it.
Can I wash my hair with knotless braids in?
Yes, and you should. Dilute a gentle shampoo, work it into the scalp with your fingertips rather than your nails, rinse until the water runs clear and let the braids dry fully - damp braids left to sit are what causes the smell. Every two to three weeks is enough.
