Braid Takedown in Houston
Braids, twists and cornrows taken out by hand, detangled, washed and conditioned — and your own hair still on your head at the end of it. The takedown is the part of a protective style that actually does the damage, and it is the part most people do themselves at midnight.

What a takedown actually involves
Four steps, in this order, every time. The order is the whole job.
-
We look at what is in there
Knotless, box, boho, twists and cornrows all come apart differently, and a style that has been in eight weeks behaves differently from one that has been in three. We check before anything is cut or pulled.
-
Cut the extension, not your hair
The added hair is cut well below where your own hair ends, so the scissors are never near your hairline. This is the step that goes wrong at home: cut too high and you have cut yourself a new haircut you did not ask for.
-
Unravel and separate
Each braid is taken apart by hand and the shed hair worked loose from the root down. Slow is the whole point. Speed here is what pulls.
-
Detangle, wash and condition
Weeks of build-up comes out, the hair is conditioned, and you leave with it ready for whatever is going in next rather than matted in a bun.
Why this is worth paying someone to do
You can take your own braids out. Here is where it usually goes wrong.
-
Three hours of patience you do not have at 11pm
Almost every bad takedown story starts the same way: late, tired, nearly finished, and the last twenty braids get rushed. That is where the breakage happens - not in the first hour.
-
The cut is the dangerous part
Working out where the extension ends and your hair begins is genuinely hard from the front of a mirror, on the back of your own head, through a braid. We are looking straight at it.
-
Matting is a one-way door
Shed hair that has been locked in a braid for weeks tangles into a dense mat at the root. Combed at the wrong angle it will not come apart - it tears. Separated from the root down, it releases.

What moves it: the style that is in, how long your hair is, and how long it has been braided. A set of jumbo knotless at three weeks comes out far faster than small box braids at eight.
Call (832) 834‑0324 with those three things and we will give you the price and the time before you come in — including whether there is room to put the new style in the same day.

Takedown Questions
If yours isn’t here, call (832) 834‑0324
How much is a braid takedown?
From $155. What moves it is the style, how long the hair is and how long it has been in - a set of jumbo knotless that went in three weeks ago is a different job from small box braids at eight weeks. Call (832) 834‑0324, tell us what is in and when it went in, and we will give you the figure before you come.
Will I lose a lot of hair?
You will see a lot of hair come out, and almost none of it is damage. Everyone sheds hair every day. While your hair is braided that shed hair has nowhere to go, so it stays held in the braid for the whole six or eight weeks and comes away all at once at the takedown. What looks like a frightening amount in one sitting is weeks of ordinary shedding arriving together. Hair that is actually breaking is a different thing, and we will tell you if we see it.
Can I take them out myself?
You can, and plenty of people do. If you are going to, give yourself far more time than you think, work in good light, cut the extension well below your own hair, and take each braid apart from the root downwards rather than yanking from the end. The damage almost always happens in the last stretch, when you are tired and want it finished.
How long does a takedown take?
It depends too much on the style, the braid size and how long it has been in for a number on a website to mean anything. Call us with those three things and we will tell you honestly, including whether there is time to put the new style in on the same day.
Do I need to book the takedown separately?
Tell us you need one when you book and we will build the time into the appointment. The thing to avoid is arriving for a fresh install with a full head still in - the slot will not have the hours in it for both, and something has to give.
Going straight back in?
Book the takedown and the new style together and we will build both into one appointment.
